From the whole Amelia Air Force, a very warm welcome to all our new subscribers and supporters! The unbelievable response to our recent press has made our year here at Amelia Air. As we wrapped up a sprint of 8 rescue missions on both coasts of the US, our feature in the Los Angeles Times came out and changed everything. We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we received from the story - if you haven’t read it yet, check it out here:

As if that weren’t incredible enough, LA Times Today also aired a segment about Amelia Air on Spectrum News 1!

It seems everyone could use a bit of good news these days.

This past Saturday, Amelia Air cofounder and pilot Petra Janney was interviewed on NPR’s Weekend Edition. Take a listen here:

PUPDATES 🐶

Speaking of good news, 6 of the 23 dogs who got a freedom flight with Dean and Brett on August 26 already have new homes! Teal, Buck, Applesauce, Lacey, and Thelma and Louise flew from a perilously overcrowded shelter in Kentucky to forever families in New Jersey.

Here is Buck at the shelter, saying thanks for his flight, and with his new family!

Here’s Applesauce in the shelter, getting ready for takeoff, and the day she found a forever home!

SEPTEMBER IS RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP MONTH ⛑️

In honor of Responsible Dog Ownership Month, read these tips on caring for your pet from our very own vet, pilot, and pet parent, Dr. Adi Chatow!

📅 Annual Wellness Exams - Yearly physical exams and vaccinations done by your veterinarian can prevent your pup from getting sick and spreading diseases to other dogs. Early detection of health problems are often caught during routine annual exams!

💊 Prevention - All dogs are encouraged to be on regular flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, no matter the time of year or where you live! Beyond causing discomfort, fleas and ticks can also transmit bloodborne diseases. Heartworm disease is becoming more prevalent and can be fatal to our dogs.

🪪 Fixing & Microchipping - Spaying and/or neutering your pets is an important part of preventing the increasing overpopulation problem we currently face across the US. Microchipping your pups when they're young will help local animal services to contact you if they ever get lost.

🚨Savings Account vs. Health Insurance - When it comes to your pooch, always be prepared for a potential health emergency. Investing in a pet health insurance plan can save you money and headache in times of need. A simpler alternative for some families is to set aside emergency funds for your pets.

From all of us at the Amelia Air Force, thank you so much for supporting our life-saving animal rescue work. If you or someone you know would like to pitch in, please donate at the link below!
