Our First-Ever Amelia Air Rescue Social!

Amelia Air is the missing link between places with too many animals, and the communities with the resources to adopt them. Typically, we do this by flying at-risk shelter pets to amazing no-kill rescues who find each one the perfect forever family. Fulfilling this mission requires a huge amount of cooperation across the entire animal rescue network - so we decided to hold an event to strengthen those bonds!

In August of 2022, our friends at Bark Social in Bethesda graciously hosted our east and west coast volunteers, pilots, rescue partners, and alums who have adopted pets we’ve flown. We gathered over tasty snacks to play rescue bingo, share stories from our animal adventures, and most importantly, talk about how we can better work together to save more pets from euthanasia!

We believe that the animal rescue community is too rarely celebrated for the incredible hard work and commitment it takes to save pets, day in and day out. So we did just that! At the end of the day, we had built new connections, awarded some fun prizes, and fostered new connections that will empower us to rescue even more animals in the future.

Huge thanks to our amazing sponsors: Bark Social, Silver Branch Brewing Company, Barrel Oak Winery, and Denizen Brewing Co! We can’t wait until the next time we get to bring everyone together to brainstorm new ways to rescue animals.

Finally, the vast majority of Amelia Air’s operations as an organization have taken place during a pandemic, so this was the first time our bicoastal team actually got to gather in person. We took the opportunity to celebrate two very special Amelia Air volunteers, who received special recognition for their service from our founders. Stacy Schecter (left) received the Founders’ Award for her incredible advocacy for Amelia Air, including smashing fundraising records and growing our online presence. Adi Chatow (right) earned the Amelia Award for advancing our mission to prevent euthanasia by opening our first vet clinics, in addition to flying animal rescues as a pilot. A huge congratulations to both amazing volunteers!
